Solving Laundry Cycle Tracking

A customer wanted to avoid repeated laundry cycles caused by leaving wet clothes in the washer too long. To address this, we installed a smart plug with power monitoring on their washer and dryer unit. Using open-source Home Assistant, we set up triggers based on real-time power wattage.

When the power output indicated the unit had stopped running, customized alerts were sent to their mobile phone, notifying them that the laundry cycle was complete. This solution helped the customer save time, water, and energy while keeping their laundry routine efficient.

Providing Adjustable Ambient Lighting for a Foyer

A client wanted a hands-free lighting solution for their foyer that adjusted based on time of day. They needed lights that would turn on automatically when someone entered through the front door or passed through the area, without the hassle of remembering to turn them off. Additionally, they wanted the brightness to adapt to the time of day, providing bright light before 8 PM and dimmer light in the evening.

To meet this need, we installed configurable smart bulbs in the ceiling light fixtures, a discreet motion sensor in a ceiling corner, and a small door sensor on the front door. The system was set to turn on the foyer lights when the door sensor detected the door opening or when the motion sensor picked up movement. The lights adjusted to bright mode before 8 PM and dimmed automatically after 8 PM. To conserve energy, the lights turned off automatically after two minutes.

This solution provided the client with a seamless, adaptive lighting experience that required no manual effort and perfectly fit their needs.
